Install deepseek R1 on your Mac

Our goal is to use Deepseek on our local machine. This procedure is similar for other freely available models.

Install Ollama

You can install Ollama using brew (brew install ollama) or downloading it from the official Ollama website.

Run DeepSeek from Ollama

From the terminal you can run DeepSeek:

 ollama run deepseek-r1:14b 

Ollama will download and use the model. The size is around 9GB, it could take a while.

At the end you should be able to see:

writing manifest 
success

Now you can play with DeepSeek!
